The Travis County Central Appraisal District (TCAD) has been responsible for providing accurate appraisal of all property in Travis County since 1981. These agencies, called “Central Appraisal Districts” consolidated the appraisal function of all taxing units into one office in each county and were organized to ensure that property taxation was fair and equitable as well as accurate. In 1979 the 66th Texas Legislature, reacting to a chronic and growing problem of inequitable and unfair taxation, passed new legislation in Senate Bill 621 requiring that a centralized agency be established in each county for the purpose of appraising property for ad valorem tax purposes. Records include City of Austin tax rolls dating from 1973 to 1980 and Travis Appraisal Central District appraisal rolls dating from 1981 to 2011.Ħ.2 linear feet (10 microfilm boxes and 3 drawers of microfiche envelopes)Īustin History Center, Austin Public Library,Ĩ10 Guadalupe, PO Box 2287, Austin, TX 78768 Travis Central Appraisal District Records
